Sparkling Pomegranate & Tonic Mocktail

by | Jan 24, 2020 | food + drink, recipes

How is your January going so far? Did you try Dry January as a New Year’s Resolution this year? I didn’t…but I did cut back on my alcohol consumption.

I love a great tasting cocktail at the end of the day with premium spirit and premium mixers. There’s truly nothing like a well made Gin & Tonic made with only the best ingredients.

Fever-Tree makes some of my favourite mixers, and lately, I have been obsessed with the Elderflower Tonic. Fever-Tree uses only the best naturally sourced ingredients for their mixers with no artificial flavouring or sweeteners.

The Elderflower tonic water is made “by blending the essential oils from handpicked English elderflowers with quinine of the highest quality from the ‘fever trees’ of the Democratic Republic of the Congo.” source – www.fever-tree.com

The tonic water has a delicious floral taste and sweetness. It’s the perfect tonic to accompany a premium vodka or a fresh and floral gin. My favourite is pairing it with the Georgian Bay Gin which is distilled from the freshest spring water found here in Elmvale, Ontario, and wild Juniper Berries which grow abundantly on the shores of Georgian Bay.

Anyhow, this delicious sparkling Pomegranate Tonic Mocktail is made with just three ingredients. Pomegranate juice, Fever-Tree Elderflower tonic water, and dōTERRA Juniper Berry essential oil. If you don’t have this essential oil, no worries, it’ll still be just as delicious. I love adding in a drop or two of Juniper Berry essential oil because it adds such a wonderful flavour to the mocktail, and I swear it tastes like I’m drinking my favourite Gin.  As an added bonus, the internal use of Juniper Berry essential oil will help support healthy kidney and urinary tract function. One of the main constituents of Juniper Berry essential is Alpha-Pinene. Alpha-PInene is a monoterpene with many health benefits including support of respiratory, and immune function. So, the next time you’re craving a G&T, but you’re trying to stick to your no-alcohol goals, try adding Juniper Berry essential oil to this sparkling Pomegranate & Tonic mocktail.

Pomegranate juice also has a bunch of benefits for your health and your skin. It helps to hydrate dry skin as well as stimulate collagen production, and offers many anti-inflammatory benefits because of its high concentration of antioxidants. Yes, please. Glowing skin is a big priority for me, and adding pomegranate juice or fruit into my diet is a no brainer when it comes to choosing foods and drinks that are great for  your skin.
