Are you inspired to live a more natural life?
I know that you want the absolute best for your kids. We all do.
When I found out that I was pregnant with my daughter, I immediately started taking stock of everything that we were bringing into our home. For a long time prior to becoming pregnant, I was doing my best to eat organic as often as I could, using only organic skin care products and trying to make conscious purchasing decisions whenever they were available to me. I want to do my best to purchase things that are not only good for my health but also good for the environment.
Then I became pregnant, and everything was amplified. I stopped highlighting my hair while I was pregnant. I searched out an organic day spa so that I could get pedicures with vegan organic nail polish. We painted the nursery using low VOC paint. We purchased organic baby care products, cloth diapers, organic (whenever possible and affordable) toys and clothing. When our daughter started eating, we made much of her baby food and to this day we make meals with whole foods avoiding anything processed whenever we can.
It was almost two years ago that we started using essential oils in our daily routines, and this is the absolute best decision that we could have made to impact our family’s overall health and well-being. We never gave our daughter any OTC medications and she has only been on antibiotics once in her life. I love that we are able to support her physical and emotional health with the purest therapeutic grade essential oils.
She now asks for which oils she needs or chooses her own and she’ll tell you if you’re using something that may not be good for you. LOL! Just ask my husband. We were away at a family cottage a couple of weeks ago and she saw a bottle of Tylenol in his overnight bag and says to him “does mommy know that you have that?!!” – he tells me that it had been in his bag from quite a while ago and he just hadn’t gotten rid of it yet. And, so I asked him why he was still holding on to it…no reason really except that he hadn’t cleaned out his overnight toiletry bag, so he threw it out. You see, we don’t have any OTC medications in our home at all. We use essential oils for pretty much everything.
I love that this is the only lifestyle that my daughter knows. We have raised her to have a love for nature and I am so proud that she now also understands the healing power of plants. We hear from her teachers, counselors, our hairdresser and so many people that she is a delight to be around. She is one of the happiest kids that I know. She cares for our environment, she knows that we can make an impact on our health and our environment by making conscious purchasing decisions. And this makes me super proud as a mom.
Raising my daughter to be aware of our environment and to know how to be her healthiest self is one of my greatest accomplishments. She has an understanding of nutrition and knows that the foods we eat impact our health. She knows that being outdoors and getting lots of fresh air and exercise is good for her mind, body and for her soul. She knows that using essential oils to support her health is a natural way to take care of herself without the need for harmful chemicals. She understands that we need to question all the things that are being marketed to us daily and to choose the most healthy options for herself. She will grow into a vibrant and healthy woman and the ripple effect of our and her choices will continue to impact our family’s health for generations to come.
